This makes my blood boil. Below is the first paragraph of a very short mention in the Houston Chronicle regarding the stress and panic a few elementary school “staff members” dedided to inflict on their students:
Murfreesboro, Tenn.– Staff members of an elementary school staged a fictitious gun attack on 69 students during a class trip, telling them it was not a drill as the children cried and hid under tables.
Those last five words break my heart. The sadistic “staff member” bastards behind this say it was intended as a learning experience (the kids learned something, alright). According to the article, it lasted five minutes. That’s an eternity to an 11 year-old wondering if they are going to be gunned down like the college kids in Virginia. Wondering if they will ever see their parents and siblings again. Their thoughts racing about the comfort and safety of thier homes and families and wishing their parents could hear their frantic mental cries for help.
Get this: The Principal of Scales Elementary, Catherine Stephens, would not say whether the “staff members” would face disciplinary action. She only said that it involved “poor judgement”. Poor judgment? Nice downplay.
Since drawing and quartering isn’t an option these days I’ll settle with everyone involved in this being fired and never allowed to work in any school, anywhere, ever again. I’d like to see them do a few days in jail too but I know that will never happen. If this had happened to my daughter I can almost guarantee that I’d be sitting in a jail cell for a few days myself. The way I see it, this was a form of child abuse. Psychologically, anyway. If a parent ever did something like this they would have their child yanked out of the house by CPS before they got a single word out of their mouth. This was just so wrong.
