I love all things that are not modern. I also love all things that no one else likes and especially the things no one else has ever heard of.

Here are two of my favorites. One is a band called Legs Diamond and the other is Mae West. Legs Diamond was a band in the seventies that I was very much in to. I saw them several times in concert and played their albums so much that the stylus had to be replaced every two or three months. We called it a needle. You don’t know what a stylus is, do you? Then there is Mae West. Mae West was . . . well, Mae West.

There is a chorus in one of Legs Diamond’s songs (the words) that has stuck with me for over 30 years. Make fun of me all you want but I think they are some powerful words. So there. I also found a site with Mae West quotes. I read them all, but two of them really stood out to me. Notice the similarity of the words below from an effeminate looking seventies rock band and that of the most sexually aggressive woman of the 1930’s. They are pretty much saying the same thing.

It’s not the music, it’s how you play it. It’s not the words, it’s how you say it.

It isn’t what I do, but how I do it. It isn’t what I say, but how I say it, and how I look when I do it and say it.

It’s not what I do, but the way I do it. It’s not what I say, but the way I say it.

Afterthought: Maybe Legs Diamond got those great lyrics from Mae West.
